March 26, 2024

Yesterday, Tuesday March 26 was a rollercoaster. We did the ultrasound in the morning, so we’re ready now for the drainage appointment. We had a meeting with palliative care to discuss pain management (everyone keeps affirming to us that this is always a part of serious illnesses). We found out the results of the brain CT scan, which showed cancer in the skull but not the brain. What a strange time we’re in, to breathe a sign of relief when we hear cancer is (only) in the skull. It’s mind-numbing to think how just two weeks ago everything was fine, Tam just had a bit of pain in her abdomen, and in February, everything seemed okay. We pray and pray for more months like February.

We also switched to new pain meds yesterday because the side effects of the other one was causing issues. This means some pain is back today as we navigate which meds at what dose to settle on. She has a lot of pain in her back, which we don’t understand, that even the pain meds don’t totally relieve.

She was able to walk (with a walker) to the door to her room and back. She hadn’t walked for nearly a week, and for this we celebrated!

As pictured in the cover photo, we also got a cot yesterday so that we can sleep in here with her moving forward. There are still no signs of us leaving the hospital any time soon, so this cot is our new best friend.

Today, Wednesday March 27, Tammy will rest as much as possible, because tomorrow is both the biopsy and the drain at the same time. I’ll write more about today when i can, but for now, please please pray today again for her appetite, for good quality sleep, and for these procedures. That the drain would bring relief, and that the procedure would not be painful and that her heart would be at peace before, during, and after.

And for us her family, pray also for quality sleep and energy. We are feeling fatigued physically and emotionally. We are so loved and supported and have all we need, other than the obvious.

A note about visits

Just so everyone is aware because we're getting message about visits, Tammy only has the energy to be present and social for about 5 minutes at a time and only a few moments per day (and has to store energy for tests and meals) and so we are not accepting visit requests at the moment. We are so thankful for everyone who loves her and wants to visit and we will let you know as soon as its a good time.

People have been so kind to drop off coffee for us all and cards and flowers and those are things that have blessed us so so much. A few people have also been so kind to send plants for her garden - it is starting to brighten up and this too has put a smile on her face (and ours) when we show her photos of them! Feel welcome to keep bringing those by, we’re praying and looking forward to see her sitting on her porch in the sun soon surrounded by these tokens of love for her from her community.
